MaxPreps Names SACS Among Nation’s Top 100 Athletics Programs
For the first time in school history, San Antonio Christian School has ranked among the nation’s Top 100 high school athletics programs. Five TAPPS state championships and two runners-up finishes during the 2018-2019 school year helped place the Lions in a tie for No. 85 in the annual MaxPreps Cup rankings.
MaxPreps is a website that specializes in coverage of American high school sports. The site is owned by CBS Interactive, a division of CBS Sports. Each year the MaxPreps Cup is awarded to the school that accumulates the most points for finishing first or second in their state championships or finishing in the Top 25 national rankings. Points also are awarded based on the size of the state, popularity of a sport, playoff classification and number of teams participating in a playoff classification.
SACS accumulated 1,028 points in the MaxPreps Cup scoring system to finish tied for No. 85 with Wesleyan High School of Norcross, Ga. The national recognition comes on the heels of SACS winning is second straight Henderson Cup as the best all-around Class 5A TAPPS school. The Lions also placed second in the San Antonio Express News Dan Cook Cup competition among both public and private school athletics programs.
Dallas Highland Park (No. 28), Houston Kinkaid (No. 50) and Southlake Carroll (No. 61) were the only other Texas schools placed among the MaxPreps Cup Top 100. Highland Park and Carroll compete in the public-school University Interscholastic League. Kincaid competes in the Southwest Preparatory Conference consisting of 16 private schools in Texas and Oklahoma. SACS was the only San Antonio area school or TAPPS member to place in the Top 100.
