My Story

After college, I taught band in the Utah public schools for ten years. For the next twenty years, I was a professional musician, playing 225 gigs a year and doing a lot of arranging for studio sessions and live performances. In 1994 I started writing for the Oakland-based band Tower of Power. The Tower of Power horns have recorded or performed about 200 of my arrangements, including guest performances with WAR, Rufus, Dumpstaphunk, The Steve Miller Band, Journey, Jon Anderson of Yes, Jacob Collier, and 8-10 of the major symphony orchestras in the country. I was also involved in church music for about 40 years all together.

What church do you attend?

I love rehearsing with the kids. I enjoy every class, every day.

Favorite Bible verse

Psalm 98:4-9 – “Shout joyfully to the LORD, all the earth; Break forth and sing for joy and sing praises. Sing praises to the LORD with the lyre, With the lyre and the sound of melody. With trumpets and the sound of the horn Shout joyfully before the King, the LORD.”

What are your hobbies and interests?

I’m still actively involved in music outside of teaching.
