SACS Band Places First at Fiesta Jazz Festival
If you’ve been to a football game, you’ve been blown away by our Rock Band. Literally. If you’ve heard our Jazz Band, you’ve been blown away by talent.
That talent comes from within 35 student musicians and one band director whom you will seldom see in front of the band.
The question “Where’s the director?” was asked numerous times throughout the recent Fiesta Jazz Festival in San Antonio. Director David Eskridge is always near, but you won’t see him front and center. Instead, you will see him introduce a piece then step aside to let the band take center stage. And they do take it away!
The Fiesta Jazz Band Festival is held each year by the Music Department of St. Mary’s University. The event offers a unique educational and music performance experience for over 500 middle school, high school and college jazz student performers from across the state. Participants perform for criticism before a panel of renowned jazz clinicians. Trophies and awards are given for outstanding performances in various categories.
This past weekend our SACS Jazz Band performed for crowds and judges during the three day festival. After being reviewed by the judging panel, the SACS Jazz Band received first place. Just a couple weeks prior the band traveled to the Temple College jazz festival where they also received sweepstakes ratings. There is no doubt these students are among the most talented in the state.
Thanks to parents who believe in their kids, musicians who are dedicated to excellence, and a band director who composes and arranges music especially suited to the instruments in our band, San Antonio Christian School rocks out on Friday nights and enjoys smooth jazz on the weekends.
Come enjoy all of our bands this Saturday for our Spring Band Concert. The Middle School Band will begin followed by the High School Band. Rounding out the evening will be the Award Winning Jazz Band. If you’ve not heard them before, now is the time to be blown away. And if you have heard them, then you know you’ll be at the Student Life Center Saturday at 6:30. They’re too good to miss. See you Saturday at the SLC.
