College guidance begins in the spring of a student’s eighth grade year.
Students collaborate with the academic counselor to choose courses, explore college prep options, and plan for the future. Individual and group sessions guide them through academic advising, test preparation, extracurricular involvement, career and college exploration, applications, and scholarships.
Through tools like the SCOIR career survey, PrinciplesYou character assessment, and YouScience aptitude test, students uncover their strengths, explore career paths, and find colleges that align with their goals. Job shadowing opportunities provide valuable real-world insights into fields of interest.
The Guidance Office is a partner for students and families, offering support and ensuring they feel prepared for the next steps after graduation.

SACS Graduates attend some of the top colleges and universities!
College Selection and Application
Students and parents receive guidance on colleges and the application process during College and Career Planning sessions. The Guidance Office hosts college admissions representatives on campus, maintains a rotating college information kiosk, and encourages participation in college visit events. Each student receives a personal SCOIR account in ninth grade to explore careers and colleges that align with their goals.
Starting junior year, students prepare college essays, resumes, and recommendation requests while working closely with the Guidance Office. Seniors receive one-on-one support throughout the year to finalize applications. SACS also participates in an annual College Fair featuring over 100 colleges from across the nation and internationally.
Scholarship Search and financial aid
Students receive a detailed list of national, state, local, and university scholarships, along with guidance on applications. Seniors are encouraged to use Going Merry, CommonApp, and the San Antonio Area Foundation for streamlined applications. Families also receive information on financial aid and the FAFSA process.
School counseling
School counselors support the social, emotional, and academic wellbeing of students by providing brief, short-term, solution focused counseling on campus. Our School Counselor is trained to address and support the social and emotional needs of students and to assist families seeking resources for long-term therapeutic support as needed.
As Proverbs 4:23 states, “Keep your heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.” At SACS, we offer a whole-hearted approach to support the mind, spirit, and body while keeping aligned with our biblical worldview. Our School Counselor is committed to providing resources to help students and families in all areas of their lives.
